The Advanced Research Computing Center (ARCC) manages, maintains, and supports all internally housed scientific computing resources including High Performance Computing (HPC), research data storage, and other research computing resources.
Where to Start?
If unsure of where to start, please review the Projects and Accounts page for information on how to get setup on any ARCC service, or contact ARCC User Support to request a consultation to learn more about what ARCC provides.

Projects and Accounts
All ARCC resources operate on a 'project' model with Principal Investigators (PIs) managing each project and controlling how user accounts get access to their project(s). See the Projects and Accounts Page to learn how this model works.

Getting Started on ARCC Services
ARCC offers a varety of computing resources for research purposes. However, the two core services are High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and research data storage systems. Below is information describing each service and the systems that provide them.
HPC Systems
Maybe the research need is to run complex models, simulations, artifical intelligence applications, or just simply a need to run many, many small calculations, HPC might be the choice to meet these needs. ARCC currently operates two on-campus HPC systems MedicineBow and AI4WY.

MedicineBow
MedicineBow is ARCC's current flagship HPC system. It is a heterogenous cluster with many different hardware configurations to meet a variety of research workflows.

AI4WY
AI4WY (short for Artifical Intelligence for Wyoming) is ARCC's newest HPC system that is a purpose-built cluster for optimizing AI applications.
Research Data Storage Systems
ARCC has data storage on the HPC systems, but also provides data storage-only resources to meet the needs of researchers who have data, but don't necessarily need HPC. ARCC currently operates two different data storage systems.

Alcova
Alcova is ARCC's primary data storage system. Alcova is intended to be a collaborative storage service for UWyo researchers with interactive access and is backed up on a nightly basis.

S3
S3 is ARCC's on-premises cloud storage system. S3 enables data to be accessible using web protocols that empower researchers to programmaticlly access and share data.
