Login Troubles
Why do I get an 'invalid username/password' error when trying to login?
Most of the time, this error has nothing to do with either your username, password, or account. Here’s a few of the potential reasons for that error:
-
People rarely do this, but if you include the ‘@uwyo.edu’ part of your username, it could give you that error.
-
Most of the time, this is a two factor authentication error. We don’t have a second screen that loads up a ‘enter your code here’ message. If there is a delay (~10-20 seconds) between clicking the login button and when this error appears, the system is looking for the second factor approval, usually a push to Duo Mobile on your phone. If this is what you are experiencing here are some things to try:
-
Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone before clicking the login button. You might get an alert with the app open to accept the push.
-
With the Duo app open, click on the UWyo section to generate a six digit code. Then when you go to enter your password, enter it as normal then add a comma with those six digits with no spaces before clicking ‘login’. Example:
-
When I try to ssh onto the cluster, it says 'permission denied (public key)'
One of two things could be happening:
- If you haven't already configured your ssh keys after downloading them from the Open OnDemand SSH Key Manager, you will need to do so.
- If it has been one year since you did configure your ssh keys, they have likely expired and you will need to download a new set.
Accounts
Can a student get an HPC account or access to Data Storage?
Yes! However, it requires that a PI already has a project created and a request for the student to be given access to that project. See our Projects and Accounts page for more information on who can be a PI to make this request.
Which account do I use with Slurm?
The Slurm directive 'account' is referring to your project account. This is the same as the project name that you are a member of. Example:
I need sudo access to the cluster, can you give my account that access?
No! Users don't have sudo/root access and never will. Please see our ARCC Polices on the ARCC website for more information.
If you really think you need sudo access, please email arcc-help@uwyo.edu and describe your issue. The team will respond with options to move forward.
Can non-uwyo affiliated users get ARCC accounts?
Yes! ARCC has the ability to create non-uwyo accounts for HPC resources and some specialty services. Usually these accounts are sponsored by a Project PI that is on-campus at the University, but there are some other special use-cases such as Wyoming Community Colleges.
Projects with non-uwyo PIs must have ARCC Leadership approval.
External Alcova users will have to request a UWYO External Collaborator account from UWIT
Data Storage
My home directory is full, can I get more space?
Typically no. Home directories are intended to be small as they should only contain configuration files and things that are unique to your user account. Take a look into your hidden directories that may have accidentally written files to it. To view hidden directories/files please use:
Software installs are usually the biggest culprit. If you need help learning how to install software into your project directory, please see our HPC software pages or email arcc-help@uwyo.edu to ask for assistance.I accidentally deleted files I need, how can I get them back?
The answer depends on which service you are using. If it is within 20 days on MedicineBow, AI4WY, or Alcova email arcc-help@uwyo.edu to ask for assistance restoring a snapshot. If it has been longer than 20 days, still send the email, if the project is an Alcova project, ARCC might have a backup.
How can I add X number of TB to my project quota?
Only the project PI can make this request. Please see the ARCC Costs and Charges policy to see what the increased cost would be.
How often is the ARCC Purge Policy entacted on /gscratch?
All /gscratch storage is subject to be purged after 90 days of inactivity. Data will only be purged if deemed necessary by ARCC and warnings will be sent if the purge policy needs to be enacted prior to any data being deleted.
